The Opioid Epidemic In San Jose

California is no stranger to the Opioid crisis plaguing the nation, as 2,410 people died of Opioid-related causes in the state in 2018. Opioid overdoses have increased more than 100% in Santa Clara county over the last several years, concerning many law-enforcement officials.

Investigations have found that dealers in the county have begun mixing Fentanyl into the pills they sell. These pills may be sold as if they were normal prescription Opioids like OxyContin. Park rangers now carry Narcan, the overdose reversing Opioid, because of the issues with overdoses in the area.

While Opioids are certainly an issue, drugs like Meth have started to grow while the spotlight is elsewhere. A report found that substance dependent people reported it was easier to find Meth than reliable Opioids. Meth is particularly problematic in minority communities who may be targeted by distributors.

State officials are creating programs and campaigns to reduce Opioid-related deaths, however, on an individual level, many suffering from addiction can find help in rehab facilities. Patients can discover underlying reasons for substance abuse disorders, while seeking treatment. Therapists examine patient’s mention and emotional states and provide life-enhancing strategies for sobriety.

Drug And Alcohol Treatment In San Jose

While attempting to quit drug and alcohol is both challenging and highly rewarding. In particular, attempting to go cold turkey, or complete unsupervised detox, is not suggested. Some side effects of detox can be highly uncomfortable and even fatal. Alcohol withdrawal, for example, can result in delirium tremens, accompanied by visual and auditory hallucinations. Opioid withdrawal can induce vomiting, cold sweats, and anxiety.

Rehab facilities offer a wide range of treatments with traditional medications and holistic, modern, spiritual-based therapies. When considering treatment for addiction, it is important to consider your desired treatment as well as the amenities treatment centers provide patients. You may want to consider reflecting on the location of the rehab facility, whether or not family members are permitted to be part of therapy, financial flexibility, aftercare programs, and daycares available for patients post-treatment.

San Jose residents are advised to consider traveling outside the city or state for rehab. Traveling for rehab allows the patient to focus on recovery as they are in a new environment. They can feel more committed to a recovery-focused life with the chance to meet people from different backgrounds.

If you or a loved one is battling addiction, there is help available. Contact a treatment provider to discuss nearby treatment options.
